My two novellas won the 2nd and 3rd place in the Inspirational Readers Choice Contest from the Faith, Love, and Hope chapter of RWA. Both were finalists for the novella category of the Carol Award of the American Christian Writers Award (ACFW).

ABOUT THE BOOK

Tess has taken some ribbing from her fellow officer, Logan, for her quilting hobby. He finds it hard to align the brisk professional officer he patrols with during the day with the one who quilts in her off-time. Besides, he’s been trying to get to know her better and he’d like to be seeing her during those few nights a week she spends with her quilting guild. Then one afternoon Tess and Logan visit her aunt in the nursing home, and the woman acts agitated when Tess covers her with the story quilt. Aunt Susan is attempting to communicate a message to them about Tess’s uncle. There’s a story behind this quilt, they realize, one that may lead them to a serial killer. Will they have a chance to have a future together, or will the killer choose Tess for his next victim before they find him?

My Thoughts:

i did get into this novel pretty quicky and while the story was good, it seemed super confusing at times. and just as it was starting to get really great for me then it was done and that was really disappointing. it needed more excitment earlier on or needed to be longer in my opinion. it was good but not the best ever.

Litfuse Blog tour "A Promise Kept" by Robin Lee Hatcher

Today i bring you a review of "a promise kept" by Robin Lee Hatcher. i'm not sure i've read a book by her before. i know i have more novels from her in my to be read pile. this was a great novel. it kept you engaged, it had a historical element to it and just kept on moving. it was something that kept me looking for more directly from the beginning. it was one of the fastest reads i've had this year (which isn't saying much since the year isn't that old) but regardless i really loved it. the only thing bad i have to say about it was the back and forth of the historical portion with the present day portion was a little bit confusing.  but amazing none the less. if you like both historical and present day novels you will get a good mix with this.

thank you to litfuse and thomas nelson for providing me with a copy of this novel for review. i wasn't compensated in anyway.

please check below for a description and enter the giveaway!

About the book: God was going to save her marriage, Allison was sure of it. But neither her husband nor her marriage had been saved.

What had become of His promise?

Tony Kavanagh had been Allison's dream-come-true. They were in love within days, engaged within weeks, married and pregnant within a year. Her cup bubbled over with joy . . . but years later, that joy had been extinguished by unexpected trials.

The day Allison issued her husband an ultimatum, she thought it might save him. She never expected he would actually leave. She was certain God had promised to heal; it was clear that she'd misunderstood.

Now, living in the quiet mountain cabin she inherited from her single, self-reliant Great Aunt Emma, Allison must come to terms with her grief and figure out how to adapt to small town life. But when she finds a wedding dress and a collection of journals in Emma's attic, a portrait of her aunt emerges that takes Allison completely by surprise: a portrait of a heartbroken woman surprisingly like herself.

As Allison reads the incredible story of Emma's life in the 1920s and 1930s, she is forced to ask a difficult question: Does she really surrender every piece of her life to the Lord?

Drawing from her own heart-wrenching story of redemption, A Promise Kept is Robin Lee Hatcher's emotionally charged thanksgiving to a God who answers prayers---in His own time and His own ways.

loose ends

Since i've vented everything out last I feel a bit better.

I'm just irritated because I have this weird ear ache/fluid in the ear type thing. Its getting better since taking benedryl though. I did put in some of that garlic oil stuff its a naturopathic remedy for an ear infection/ache. UGH that was horrible. I don't like eye drops or drops in my ears. So I felt like I was gonna go insane. It felt so weird. And so gross.

Anyways this past weekend we went and started a bridal registry at macys. Which I was fun but its so overwhelming trying to think of what to put on it. And they gave us a bunch of stuff. Like little cards to put in invitations and stuff.

But its so weird cause the lady said for like shower invites/whatever else and I was thinking uhhh I doubt i'll have a shower. And I don't even think I have enough friends to do that. And I wouldn't have anyone to throw one. So that is weird and awkward.

We intended to do target too but we were just too tired. Since we were doing other running around too.

I had it set in my mind I wanted to find some kind of basket that was fabric and moveable not stiff so I could put the yarn i'm using to make an afghan and then I didn't have to put it in a plastic bag. And usually when I go out to find something I have imagined in my mind I never can find it and it doesn't exist. And I totally found something. I was happy for two days! Its so exciting. And everytime I look over and see it it gets me excited all over again. I feel like such a freak.

I'm super behind in everything like reading but I finally got caught up on all blogs! So that was major.

I did almost finish one book. But its weird because I never ever start two books at one time. But I have like 7 that are a little bit read. Which is really irritating to me. So many unfinished. And no reviews written. Ugh.

But with wedding stuff and life stuff and everything else I just feel like I can't ever be caught up on anything. Maybe I will be someday soon. But for now thats how it is.

i'm alive!

So i'm still around, just sparse on words. A lot of crap has gone on on so I guess i'll get to updating.

I'm just so overwhelmed with a lot that I just don't know what to say. The boys parents really treated him like crap growing up and they make drama about us getting married. And its just sort of a mess. And its stressful and I just don't want to deal with them honestly.

Planning is stressful cause of no time and the boys school and trying to see whats going on and all the details. Thankfully we aren't having a crazy elaborate wedding. Just eloping but they want otherwise. ugh I just don't know.

The holidays were sorta weird. But alright. New years hasn't been so great though. I got a flat tire last week so that really sucked and i've just been so over everything. Cause I pretty much need 4 new tires and I don't want to deal with the whole thing at all.

I'm stressed out about where the boy and I will live when we get married, getting married terrifies me and sex terrifies me. Also living not at my house terrifies me.

I'm a ball of crazy and anxiety and I dunno what to do about it.

I've also noticed I pretty much cry anytime anything serious comes up like my tires i've been crying about it and when I got the flat tire. I guess I just cry everytime I have something “serious” to say I dunno why its like that but i've always done it. I'm not sure why I can't ever hold it together.

I have a bunch of crafts i'm doing so thats good. But I have a ton unfinished also a ton of unfinished books which is irritating me but such is life.

I'm not even sure what to say or what to write anymore. So thats about all.

Dorothy Love’s “Carolina Gold” Southern Essentials $100 Visa Cash Card Giveaway and 1/14 Facebook Party!

The war is over, but her struggle is just beginning.
Charlotte Fraser returns to her late father’s once-flourishing rice plantation on the Waccamaw River, determined to continue growing the special kind of rice known as Carolina Gold. But Fairhaven Plantation is in ruins, the bondsmen are free, and money is scarce.
To make ends meet, Charlotte reluctantly accepts a position as tutor to the young daughters of Nicholas Betancourt, heir to the neighboring Willowood Plantation. Then Nick’s quest to prove his ownership of Willowood sends Charlotte on a dangerous journey that reveals an old family mystery—and threatens all that she holds dear.
Inspired by the life of a 19th century woman rice planter, Carolina Gold continues Dorothy Love’s winning tradition of weaving together mystery, romance, and rich historical detail, bringing to life the story of one young woman’s struggle to restore her ruined world. - Book Description

The Painted Table

I use Grammarly's plagiarism checker because plagiarism is serious business!

The cover for this book was somewhat intriguing and I didn't know what it would be about. The writing has a nice flow upon the second attempt at reading it. I'm ten chapters in and I haven't really fully gotten to know what it's about yet still. But I know that it's about some sort of mental anguish and it is kind of an odd story. I'm unsure if I like it yet or not. I'm just confused about what it's really about yet. But I don't dislike it!

So far there has been a rough upbringing for the main character, a child named Joann. She had a not very good family life. I think the parents are immigrants, and it was a very big family. The mother had mental problems and the father only wanted boys, but she kept giving birth to girls. She said that if he gave it away she'd kill herself, and he did. She went through with her promise, leaving eight kids to her husband. Now Joann is all grown up with kids of her own and has been gradually checking out, and one of her sisters has passed away. And now her mother-in-law brought this table to her before she moved away. The book description says that it's the table that her own mom used to obsess over and keep painting new coats over time and again.

I am definitely intrigued, so I will keep reading this... and I may make an update on this sometime in the future.

Suzanne Field is celebrating her novel The Painted Table with a beautiful hand-painted table giveaway!

Influenster Violet voxbox

i was provided the violet voxbox free of charge exchange for my review. i wasn't compensated in anyway.

in this box i got a soy joy bar, dry shampoo, a bottle of nailpolish and a headband.

unfortunately this box was sort of a stinker for me. i don't think the soyjoy bar is appetizing, i don't use headbands because they just don't stay on my head. dry shampoo freaks me out.

so the only thing left is the nailpolish. i do use that but not that often. i love the color the bottle was sort of hard to open though. it has that square cap but then you get that off and there is a regular circle type cap. which is super weird to me but its fine. i didn't use it since it doesn't ever stay on my fingernails and its too cold to use it on my toes. but i love sally hansen polish so i'm sure it will be great.
