A Promise to Protect blog tour.

Summary: Navy SEAL Matt Waterstone knows about keeping people safe. When his best friend’s sister is attacked, Matt promises no harm will come to Ashley Sawyer–not on his watch. But Matt’s not the only protective one. Ashley will do anything to safeguard the residents of the battered women’s shelter she runs. She’s sure she can handle the threats she gets in return. What she can’t handle is the way Matt scales the walls around her heart. Yet when she falls prey to a crime web more sinister than she’d realized, trusting Matt could be the only way to survive. Cover Art: About the Author: Liz Johnson graduated from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff with a degree in public relations and set out to work in Christian publishing. In 2006 she got her wish when she accepted a publicity position at a major trade book publisher. While working in the industry, she decided to pursue her other dream—becoming an author. She is now a two-time ACFW Carol Award finalist, and A Promise to Protect is her fourth novel with Love Inspired Suspense. Liz makes her home in Nashville, TN, where she enjoys theater, exploring the local music scene, and making frequent trips to Arizona to dote on her two nephews and three nieces. She loves stories of true love with happy endings. Keep up with Liz's adventures in writing at www.lizjohnsonbooks.com, or follow her Author Photo: Author Interview: What’s your new book, A Promise to Protect, about? Ashley Sawyer has been the director of a battered women’s shelter for three years, so she’s no stranger to dealing with threats. But when she helps a young woman disappear, the threats become more intense than she’s ever experienced. Navy SEAL Matt Waterstone is happy to check on his best friend’s little sister, certain he can take care of the situation. But as Matt and Ashley search for the source of the threats, they uncover a plot more sinister than they ever imagined . . . and a love they never expected. How did you get interested in writing about Navy SEALs? When I was in college, I picked up a novel about a SEAL, and I was hooked. Who were these men unafraid of facing down the worst in this world? Who would go through such torturous training to be called the elite? I began watching documentaries on Special Forces units and reading everything I could about the men on the teams. Lately I’ve been reading biographies of SEALs including Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and Fearless by Eric Blehm, fascinated by the type of personality it takes to become a SEAL. It’s been said that good writers are good readers. What do you enjoy reading? I’ll read just about anything that I can! And I read as often as I’m able. That translates into—whenever I’m not on deadline. My favorite books cross genres and years. As a kid, I read The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and I loved it! Still do. As an adult, I’ve really The Princess Bride and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Mostly I just enjoy a rich story with a happily ever after. What have you enjoyed reading recently? I’ve written three books this year—met three deadlines—so I haven’t had as much time to read as I’d like. But I did catch new books by some of my favorite historical authors—Julie Klassen and Karen Witemeyer. On a recent road trip I finally listened to the audio version of Susan Meissner’s The Shape of Mercy. It was wonderful! Liz, what’s up next for you? Right now I’m working on the follow up to A Promise to Protect, which is due out next year. It’s about Ashley’s brother and Matt’s best friend, Tristan. Then I’m scheduled to write a third book in my SEAL series. I’ve loved writing about the men of SEAL Team FIFTEEN and the women they fall in love with, so I’ll be sad when the series wraps up. I’m also working on a contemporary romance and bouncing at least a hundred and three other ideas around my mind. Excerpt: “Tristan is the closest thing I have to a brother. He’s worried about you, and so am I. Let me help.” Fear flickered through Ashley’s eyes as she whispered, “Someone almost ran me over.” “Tristan said something about a letter,” Matt pressed. Ashley nodded. “When I got home that day, there was an anonymous note saying that someone wanted his property back.” His gut clenched. What kind of jerk threatened a battered women’s shelter? “Listen, I’m in town for a few days. Let me look into things.” She smiled up at him. “Thanks, but I got the note more than a week ago. If there was any danger, something else would have happened by now.” As they reached her car, her smile died. He didn’t have to ask if she still thought the threat had passed as she took in the smashed windshield of her coupe. Tucked under a wiper blade, the person responsible for the mess had left a clear message. If I don’t get what’s mine, you’ll get what’s yours.

Merry freaking christmas

So it hasnt really felt like Christmas and lately its been a mess. We just now got our tree ornaments on. Its been up for a week with lights on it.

My extended family is a mess we arent having a get together and my grandma is going insane.

today it was super windy and I did shopping to try and finish everything. I didnt though. But when I was leaving the store. I was going in my car and the wind sorta kicked up and my door sorta went into the car next to me. It didnt leave any dent or scratch but the this super scary lady came out like knocked on my window and yelled at me. Talk about terrifying but I know nothing was there so I said sorry but I mean it was the wind. I couldn't do anything but it rattled me. And I get super paranoid about being sued or people out to get me or something. Im crazy.

Ugh just not a great day...

Influenster Cosmo Voxbox Review!

Have you heard of Influenster? its a program that is invite only and they send you boxes of items to test and review. if you would like an invite let me know and i'll email you one!

when i got the email about qualifying for a voxbox i was super excited! it was my first one. and honestly i didn't think i was going to qualify for one at all so i was SO much more excited. so this is the cosmo voxbox! it was great to find what was in it since i was convinced there would be  a bunch of things i didn't like.

first off there is the Venus Embrace Razor from Gillette:

i tend to be picky with razors mostly because i get razor burn a lot or sometimes my skin freaks out. i tested this on my legs with each blade. with all of Gillette's razors you can mix and match the cartridges which is pretty cool i think. like if one is on sale you can just get that and it will fit. that's a great feature to have. i liked the embrace cartridge more than the olay cartridge. the olay smell i was not a fan of and since it had a bunch of lubrication on it i didn't put anything else on my leg to assure i didn't get razor burn. but it did burn a little, and it didn't get all the hair off the first time. though with either cartridge i did not get nicked. but the embrace worked best for me. i tried one on each leg since i haven't shaved for months (tmi) again i'm a fan of the Embrace rather than the olay.

Next up is the FriXion pen by pilot:

i'm super picky with pens and honestly these passed the test. they are SO amazing and erasable. i remember a long time ago having erasable pens and they never really worked so well. but these are great.

 Chocolate!:

Since this said sea salt chocolate i thought it would be amazing! but for me it just didn't pass. i didn't really like it. it would have been much better with caramel and sea salt.  super disappointing.

last but not least:
this is a fragrance spray from bath and body works which i love! its called forever red and it has pomegranate, red osmanthus (not sure what that is), and vanilla rum. its much better than i expected. but for the most part bath and body works does amazing things in general. i'm excited to wear it.

Thank you to influenster for this box of goodies to review. i was not compensated in any way.

i was freaking out

so i haven't written cause i've been trying to catch up on everything and i was freaking out about clothes to wear for a party. i don't go to parties but the boys agency he is employed through is having a party. and its at the space needle. so since its a once in a lifetime thing most likely. we have to go.

problem was i'm too fat for all my clothes. but even so i don't really own much in general. so i had to stress and i had been looking for something at goodwill everytime i went there. never found anything. and by some miracle i found something at target of all places. but then i needed a tank top to go under this dress cause it kinda showed a little too much for my liking (i don't like to have that show at all anyways). i wanted a red tank top since the dress is charcoal grey. but i couldn't find one. but then i got the bright idea to check other locations and there was maybe one at the downtown location so i asked the boy if he would go look and he did and he found the only one they had. so thats good.

here is the dress.

i'm just going to wear it with leggings cause i'm always cold and some flats. hopefully i won't be too cold.

EDIT: i totally forgot about the fact that i was freaking out about the price. i had looked online and found this for 34.99 and i was hoping that i could find something cheaper cause i don't like to spend too much money. when we got there, the dresses were on clearance! it was only 17 dollars. i had chosen another dress that was 26 but tried them on when i got home. cause i don't like the dressing rooms.  anyways i'll be wearing these earrings too not sure about a necklace yet.:

crafting frenzy!

Sorry I disappeared guys. I miss blogging and reading/commenting on other blogs. I've been in a crazy frenzy for the last few weeks. Last minute I decided to try to do a christmas bazaar. I did get a lot of stuff made for it but no one bought anything. Except for two ornaments I made. So then I was kinad sad but then I made up a new store online so if you want to check it out please do and buy things I made! I spent so much time on this stuff and now have a spasm in my shoulder cause of it. Haha. Thats so horrible.

Visit my
store on Storenvy

Anyways other than that nothing much has been going on. I'm so behind in pretty much everything, surveys, blogs, reading. I feel sorta overwhelmed by it. But i'll get through hopefully. And now I will attempt to lose weight again by working out a lot. So i'm hoping I see results. I'm kinda sad about it all and the fact that my hair is still thin. I gotta get back on the vitamin ball and hopefully working out will help. I was toying with the idea of taking horsetail to see if that would help my hair situation. But i'm not sure about it. Anyone have any experience with that?

Review: Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot

Celia Anderson wants nothing more than a few more boarding students for her boarding house, which are very difficult to come by in her small mining town. She isn't looking for a husband on that Christmas wishlist either. When a wandering carpenter finds lodging at her boarding house, she admits she would remarry if she found the right man, one that would bring her roses for Christmas. Though it would take a miracle to get roses during a harsh Wyoming winter. But Christmas is the season for miracles.

Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot is such a nice small read. It gives the perfect amount of christmas in a short book. It probably only took me an hour to read, but that doesn't mean it wasn't memorable. Amanda is a new author to me, i'd never heard of her before I received this for review. But she would definitely be one to keep watch out for, she has a great way with words and I wish this story was longer. It was just a cute book. Imagining the time period and the scene was the best part. Though one character really struck me wrong when he would keep after Celia trying to get her to marry him constantly. He just wouldn't let up and it irked me. But the carpenter was such a nice and genuine man, who was just searching for his father. Its just an awesome story you have to read it to see! I want to give away so much more than this but then i'd tell you the whole story. So pick it up soon!

Review: Basic DVD series by Francis Chan

Francis chan has this series of dvds that are called “Basic” there is 7 dvds in all and they are about 10 minutes a piece. Its more of a small group discussion type of thing. But there isn't any reason why you couldn't watch them by yourself and contemplate them yourself, or with a friend or spouse also.

“Trends come and go in our culture and the church seems to follow. BASIC is a seven-part series of short films that challenges us to reclaim the church as Scripture describes it to be. This series speaks to those who have questions about the church and to those who may have lost interest in the church.
What is church?
You are church.
I am church.
We are church.

The DVD's in the series are:

“Fear God”
“Follow Jesus”
“Holy Spirit”
“Fellowship”
“Teaching”
“Prayer”
“Communion”

i thought that these were really awesome. the 2nd and 3rd ones i didn't get into as much as the rest. from the 4th through the 7th dvd they were really eye catching and you really just wanted to follow through with the rest of the story as it played out. but also Francis Chan always has great things to say. He is such a great speaker so this series is just good by itself even without a small group discussion like its really meant for. i suggest you check these out in a small group or just alone they are awesome. thank you to David Cook for providing these to review!

Review of Big Idea Products

Today I am going to review three Veggietales products!

Little Ones Can Do Big Things Too!”

"Featuring favorite Veggie shows, including: Pistachio: The Little Boy Who Woodn't (A Lesson in Listening to Your Parents), Lyle the Kindly Viking (A Lesson in Kindness) and Dave & The Giant Pickle (A Lesson in Self-Esteem), all with a message of how you don't have to be big to be able to do great things! Plus all new footage from the adorable Veggie Kids!"

This one was super cute it has little videos of kid veggies with kid voices it kills me how cute that is. I just can't explain it. But WAY cute. All of these videos are great. The only one I hadn't seen before was Pistachio and that was a pretty good one.

3-2-1 Penguins-The Complete Series”

"is the popular NBC TV series now available in one complete set for the first time! It includes 13 episodes and fun bonus features!"

Never having seeing 321 penguins before I was excited to see it for the first time on a disc with lots of episodes. But I just couldn't get into it and never went past the 1st episode. It just wasn't funny or clever and mostly just boring for me.

Bob and Larry Go Country”
"It's time to hoot and holler with Bob, Larry and the whole posse as they round up all-time favorite, top country songs like "Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," "Jesus Take the Wheel," and "God Bless the USA;" you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kick up your boot heels and play it over and over again!"

I do like country song some of the time. And I had an open mind for most of the cd. And it was amusing at some points. But I just couldn't listen anymore it was just too weird and too much for me. So I didn't really enjoy it that much. Which was such a bummer.

Stay tuned for more reviews for veggietales products!

thanks to Big Idea for providing these for review free of charge. my thoughts are my own and i was not compensated in anyway.

Book Review: The Christmas Pony by Melody Carlson

In 1937 when christmas came along, eight-year-old Lucy Turnbull knew better than to wish for a pony. Her mother had assured her that asking for a pony was the same as asking for the moon. The only mouths they could feed were the kind that pay at their boarding house. When an interesting pair of strangers come into town, Lucy starts to believe that her Christmas wishes might just come true after all.

This is the newest Christmas novel out by melody Carlson. Normally I would like most everything she puts out. Unfortunately in this case I just couldn’t connect with it, and it being such a short novel (about 160 pages) it was just hard and slow moving for me. Maybe it was because of the fact i'm not into horses at all. But whatever the reason it just wasn't a good one for me personally. I'm sure there are others who would love this novel but a great author!

Available Sept 2012  at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.

Review: The Ultimate Veggietales Christmas Collection

It's A Veggie Christmas Marathon! Plug in the tree, light the fire and get ready for the VeggieTales Christmas Extravaganza!

Big Idea has put out a new christmas collection! i was SO excited to get the opportunity to review this. I LOVE veggietales and I love veggitales christmas even more! its just so lovely! on this collection it has every VeggieTales Christmas DVD that is out. Plus there is a cd that has 25 christmas songs. here is the list of what is on the 2 disc collection.
  • Includes:
    • It's a Meaningful Life
    • Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving
    • The Little Drummer Boy
    • The Toy that Saved Christmas
    • The Star of Christmas
    • Christmas Singalong DVD
    • + 25 Song CD! Approx. 243 minutes
Now i had seen most of these before, except for The Star of Christmas. and i love them all. they are so clever and just all around great. its the best that there is the christmas cd too. i will definitely put all those songs (except feliz navidad cause i kinda despise that song) on my mp3 player come christmas time. the only thing bad about this collection is the singalong dvd. i just don't really see a point to those. maybe for older kids who can read but i'm not sure what else it is useful for.

other than that its awesome. i just love that they made a collection like this.

And right now this is happening!

thank you to big idea for providing this for review all my thoughts are my own. and i was not compensated in any way.

life lately

i meant to write last week, it didn't happen that much is obvious.

well i don't know anything about the IRS yet. so thats still stressful.

another stressful thing, was the boys phone situation, he had to call insurance and pay a deductible. blah. but not only that he had a loaner phone we had just  basic one. so he had no contacts. and we were waiting for a call potentially from a person that might help with the IRS stuff. so while the boy was one the phone with insurance the other phone rang. and it had a texas area code which is where that person is from. so i had to answer it. i don't like talking on the phone in general. but i had to. so i answered it, but it wasn't that person. UGH it was the boys dad, now i'm not too fond of his parents they are super irritating and condescending and they put a religious spin on everything to make themselves look better. so it was awkward to talk to his dad. mostly the convo went like this...

him: so you guys are together pretty much every night?
me: basically
him: well you guys must like each other.
me: just a little bit
him: well i hope its more than a little bit since you are planning or talking about getting married.
me: uh yeah.

SO AWKWARD. they don't know how to take sarcasm and now it was a big thing like they were trying to be nice when the boy called him back but they don't get me and my humor. they play it off as i'm funny but its so awkward cause now they are all who is this girl and why is she with my son. they already think we are unequally yolked because of the fact that i don't speak in tongues. according to them everyone has to have ALL gifts that the bible talks about. but whatever i live in seattle they live in texas. and thats how it shall stay. his parents are nuts. not a fan.

another person who i'm not a fan of is my grandma. shes so unrealistic. yesterday was her birthday she apparently was so sad that none of the grandkids called her or made a big deal cause it was her 75th birthday. well let me tell you this granny, you treat people like crap and you don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt and you expect everyone to fawn all over you on your birthday? yeah right. just last week she had called my cell and basically screamed at me asking where my mom was, cause she miscommunicated the whole outing. and i was like gee thanks i did nothing to you lady. its not like our family is close anyways. but really you cannot expect everyone to drop everything for you when you treat all of us so badly. she puts the dogs she takes care of first in everything. she uses them as an excuse and never spends time with us. and she also expects that when she doesn't do anything for us. like throwing money at us is a great thing and its in place of memories and that makes it all better. well you have treated my cousin and her family like crap and so has the rest of the family. i just don't see the point. she has said some really screwed up things lately and its just very infuriating to have a grandma who wasn't a grandma to me. shes the only one i've ever had and when i see others relationships with their grandparents its just depressing to me. i wish i knew what it was like to have a loving extended family. all i know is a family that doesn't communicate and most of them have extreme hot heads. no wonder why grandpa doesn't go anywhere or do anything she screams at him all the time and most of the time its for no reason. there aren't really any happy holidays going on around here. its sad.

in other happy news these are the crafty things i've done lately.

this is the poncho i made for my neighbor:

and this is the dog bed and the blanket i made for someone at church:

i am pretty happy with them. also here are some flowers i've been making for a friend. she is putting them on knitted ear warmer/headbands.
lets see, i also won this cowl on a giveaway got it the other day in the mail. its awesome!

and since i'm still on a picture kick. i will show you the boys cell phone that got run over by a bus a few weeks ago:
i hope you all are well!

Kylie Minogue Album review

The Abbey Road Sessions features sixteen tracks, all radically reworked, spanning Kylie’s incredible twenty-five-year career. It was recorded in London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios with Kylie’s band and a full orchestra. The album features many of Kylie’s best-known hits and previously unreleased tracks. Over all sixteen tracks, one thing becomes very clear—stripped of her high-end pop production, the emotional resonance of Kylie’s songs has never been clearer, and her voice has never sounded better.

My Thoughts:
i only remember hearing one song of hers before and that was a long time ago. it wasn't horrible. but i just couldn't get into this cd. it bored me to death. i dunno what it was but i guess its cause i'm more into indie stuff these days. but you can't get into everything.

I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of the CD to facilitate my review. By posting, I am eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own.

Chris Mann Album review

As a finalist on the hit NBC television series “The Voice,” Chris Mann captured the hearts of millions while drawing the respect of platinum talents such as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo. Following one of his many dynamic live performances on the show, Aguilera told him, “I
feel the heavens open up when you sing.” America agreed, and when the series ended, Chris had not one, but two songs on the iTunes Top 10 Pop Singles Chart.

Influenced by Pavarotti, Robbie Williams and vintage Sinatra, Chris’ blend of classically-trained tenor and contemporary pop vocals is a sound that’s rare in music today. Said Cee Lo, “He is by far one of the most incomparable vocalists I have ever heard.”

This classical crossover artist is set to release his Christmas EP on October 9 and his full-length major label debut album on October 30.

My Thoughts:

I wasn't familiar with this guy at all. i haven't watched the voice until this season. so i had no idea what to expect really. i went in with an open mind i do like a lot of different genres of music so i assumed i would like this too. unfortunately for me that wasn't the case. i listened to the whole album and i kept skipping to the next song to see if i was gonna like the next one. and it just didn't happen. the music was slow and sounded too operaish for me.

This is a review post from One2One Network. I was provided with a copy of the album and I am eligible for a prize drawing. All opinions stated are my own

well tuesday was kinda rawrish. i felt so bad for the boy cause a lot of things are going wrong lately and honestly this week has been crap. so has the last few months. there are a lot of things that really suck, the irs is trying to get him to pay money. and now there is a certified letter waiting at the post office. nothing was working right on his birthday. AND yesterday his phone got run over by a bus that he was trying to catch that didn't stop for him.  i just don't know what to do or how to handle it and its not like i get very much time with him anymore. and now all this its almost too much for me.

probably doesn't help that my period started yesterday so i was all irritated and emotional and in a lot of pain. i dunno i'm just depressed i guess i need things to be better. i need to force myself to do something and to pray about it. but i still am just freaking out inside. well thats about all for now. i have to work on reading all these christmas books for review. and i need to work out. so i will leave you with a picture.

What a weekend!

Friday a friend and I surprised justin with dinner at famous daves. We had this planned for almost 2 weeks. He had no idea which is hilarious to me. I told him right when he got to my house that I had to go to joanns for something right then. So we left. I drove us to famous daves, had a table waiting since she was already there. And he was so confused then SO surprised. It was perfect. She bought our dinner cause that was the deal. She even forced us to order dessert. Haha she is sorta pushy when it comes to things.

Before that I realized i'm too fat to fit into any of my pants. So that was pretty depressing. So saturday we went to goodwill and st vincents to check out the pants situation. It was really dumb cause on thursday I went thrifting for sweaters I was gonna look for pants but I decided I wasn't into it. I should have though. Anyways, I did find two pairs one was kinda big/stretchy and the other would fit its just a little on the tight side though it wouldn't be that way if I put them on in the morning. So I got them I thought iw as gonna be spending 14 bucks and I was kinda like ugh this is annoying. Though better than spending 30 for a brand new pair. But the guy told me it was 7 something and I was like uh what? Haha it was great. Then I found another pair at goodwill for 6 bucks. But that one is on the tight side so I will have to save them for later.

So now i'm starting to get on the exercise train. I absolutely have to at this point. So I made a schedule and a online friend of mine is going to help keep me accountable and i'm doing the same for her. Haha we are both needing this bad. I am working on drinking as much water as I should daily which is about 13 cups is what I need to stay hydrated. And i'm going to be drinking green tea. I also need to eat more often I don't eat very much very often so thats another problem I have. But hopefully once I get going with this that weight will drop right off and I will be able to fit in my clothes again! That would be nice. I'd also like to not have this huge stomach anymore. I just need to keep with it.

Sunday we went to church, served in childrens ministry I love those munchkins they are so funny. Then we went out to bellevue and went thrifting again. The boy had found a really good pair of jeans for 10 bucks. That bellevue goodwill has some awesome stuff. I found so much pyrex stuff but I didn't get any I didn't like the colors. But I was just happy to find it haha. We found some books at the goodwill too. Then we went to target in factoria (still bellevue) and I did some exchanges. Then we went to the buffet for dinner it was good that day. Sometimes a lot of the food is hit or miss. But I got mostly winners with what I chose so that was good! Then we raced home to watch the amazing race we missed a few mins but thats alright.

Now I have to talk about duck dynasty.

For one thing I wish I was part of their family for the sheer hilarity it all is. And I kinda wish that Si was my grandpa he is hilarious. We were watching an episode and they were blazing hot and then went to get snow cones. And there you have these gems (top and bottom):

And that is what I leave you with! if you haven't seen that show. You should check it out asap!
